Admissions
Application Process
A rigorous selection process for trainees into the AMPERE program will be consistent with policies set by the
National Cancer Institute (NCI). A formal application is required for this program. This application will require a statement of research interests and career goals, graduate transcript and prior Co-op/fellowship or other project experience, and letters from prior mentors.
Selection criteria will include:

Demonstrated interest in global health discipline research with interests in cancer medicine highlighted in the statement of interest when applying

Academic achievement demonstrated by excellent grades

Recommendation from former teacher, or medical program course instructor or mentor

Recommendation from collaborating or other institution

Opportunity to benefit career wise from the AMPERE program participation as indicated in a statement of interest
Completed applications for the program must be received by March 31, 2026 at 11:59pm EDT.

Excellence
Outstanding Mentors and Mentees
All selected AAPM AMPERE fellows/trainees will attend an orientation program to familiarize them with global
health research. In an online 2-week orientation prior to their international travel, all trainees will be introduced
to Environmental Health and safety aspects of research, scientific and academic ethics, research approaches,
familiarization with sophisticated instrumentations used in cancer research and low-cost approaches. Trainees
will be required to watch lecture videos on “Approaching Global Health: The win-win model” and meet with and
interview mentors and prior AMPERE Fellows with experience in global health or diaspora health professionals
who have an understanding of both USA and LMIC culture. The orientation program will be a rigorous educational
experience to prepare the trainee for a successful and meaningful global health experience.
